Guitar piece in Open D (DADF#AD, low to high) after John Fahey's John Henry Variations. In place of some of Fahey's I wrote my own sections, indicated below by asterisks * and the time of occurence. I begin with the main John Henry theme, then (at :57) the see-sawing theme that I think of as his Heart, keeping steady rhythm. Then a short bluesy bit (* 1:27) that is his Worried Wife (because John Henry is going to go up against that terrifying steam hammer). Then a jouncy bit (* 1:42) that is his Devoted young Daughter. Then the descending clusters (1:53) which I think of as the warm strength of the Henry Family. (Fahey does very fast arpeggios through these position changes, but I discovered and really like my thematic variant, here.) I use the 4th fret for the third of the descending clusters instead of the 3rd fret, as Fahey does. I wanted a less-dark tone. This section shows off the possibilities of fretted strings against open ones to make interesting melodic lines. Note the slight difference in the second cluster during different runs-through.)The there is the Machine theme (*2:18), which I wrote, wanting a relentless and somewhat demonic sound. Then the piece goes back to a repeat of these themes. Playing for people, I can make the machine first be powerful and relentless, but later, by choking the Machine theme cluster, and other tweaks, pretend that it is the machine breaking down and failing. Then John Henry's theme, first a bit weary but gathering triumphal ...

Canoeing is an activity that can serve as a good way to pass the time at a lake or river, although you can also turn it into a competitive sport of sorts. For whatever purpose, there is the one-man trigger canoe that is among the types of outrigger canoes with lateral rigs. This canoe can have a single or double outriggers to provide balance while spars (iako) are provided along the gunwale which extends over the sides and end with the ama (flotation devices).

Going solo in the waters

Otherwise known as the solo outrigger, the one man trigger canoe is designed to seat a single person. The seats are commonly found in the middle of the canoe to promote balance and a more centered weight. The length of solo outriggers are usually from 19 to 21 feet, but there are also variants that are as long as 27 feet.

In the case of longer solo outriggers, the rockers are lower so you maintain stability when canoeing on flat waters. The weight of these canoes also depend on the materials that they are made of. Basically, standard fiberglass canoes can be as heavy as 17kg to 20kg and those made of composite materials are lightweight and can be as heavy as 12kg.

The one man trigger canoe can also be used for racing and, in such cases, a lightweight one is most suitable. Apart from racing, lightweight outrigger canoes are easy to propel without making you exert too much effort on your paddle. Just make sure that the lightweight materials are of good quality so durability and stability are not taken for granted. Basically, you can go for carbon fiber materials although they can be a bit expensive. If that is the case, polyethylene is a cheaper yet sturdy alternative.

The series was upgraded from the HH-53B/C, variants of the Sikorsky CH-53 Sea Stallion. The HH-53 "Super Jolly Green Giant" was initially developed to replace the HH-3 "Jolly Green Giant".
